Self-Empowerment with Gifts from Mother Nature

All of us could use a little help whenever we are navigating life’s ups and downs – from gathering up willpower to rise out of adversity, to bolstering up confidence during important events. However, during times of extreme stress when our mental or emotional wellbeing is unbalanced, self-confidence can be hard to find. So how can we find the motivation to fearlessly rise above the challenge?

Awareness of Your Emotions

Contrary to popular belief, humans are mostly emotional beings and 99% of life’s decisions are made emotionally. Stress, anxiety, depression and mental fatigue can affect our emotions and subsequently, mar our decision-making process. Since emotional health is of great importance, it is crucial to stay clear of negativity and develop a positive outlook in life. Emotional support from loved ones can only do so much if one has a chronic bleak view of life; hence it is always ideal to be empower yourself with adequate exercise, sleep, the right foods and Mother Nature’s living energy – essential oils.

How Essential Oils Affect the Brain

The aromas of therapeutic essential oils stimulate the brain’s limbic system, which is directly connected to our olfactory system. Emotions are largely housed in the limbic system and this area of the brain plays a crucial part in the formation of our memories. Just by sniffing in aromas, essential oil molecules bypass our rational minds to alter our moods or bring forth inspiration.

Take the Time to Smell the Flowers

Yoga and essential oils have been used together since ancient times, to heal and balance the body, mind and spirit. The use of essential oils in a yoga class greatly enhances the practice of yoga as oils increase the awareness, and experiences of a yoga class. I have seen how students become more alert, receptive, present, calmer and grounded.

With Yoga and essential oils, there is a dance and flow of equanimity between body, mind (focus), and our breath, and a journey towards self-discovery, healing and balance. A simple quietness and tuning inward occurs as we begin to truly listen to what our bodies have to tell us – what feels good; how the stretch feels; the subtle emotional shifts after oils are applied.

Yoga and essential oils enhance and aid each other. Yoga poses are a wonderful way to create much needed space in our bodies – muscles, joints, as well as internally – the lungs, liver, stomach, heart. Some yoga poses such as twists, encourage digestion, or relieve constipation. Other poses like chest openers create space in the muscles between the ribs, diaphragm, lungs and stomach. Forward bending poses stretch out the entire back line of the body as well as the kidneys. The feet, for example, have meridians, energy points and nerve endings, associated with all the organs and parts of the body. That is why foot massage techniques such as the VitaFlex technique is so effective when we apply oils on the feet.

For a heart themed class, Lavender, Joy or Release essential oils could be applied to the heart region, back of the neck or simply a drop under the nose. The scent serves as a wonderful reminder to stay open hearted, and embrace all that comes your way.

So spend some time today to discover the wonderful powerful and magical combination Yoga and essential oils!

For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth”.

There are thousands of meridians that weave an intricate web in our bodies. They are commonly referred to as Chi or Prana (life force). Meridians are lines of energy that flow through the body and can affect various organs, circulation, and the general function of the physical body as well as our mental and emotional states. When these meridians are open and stimulated, the overall healthy flow of energy improves and increases and directly affect you, through better organ function and emotional wellbeing. This class focuses on the unblocking and stimulating energy flow through the liver and kidney meridians. The liver is associated with the function of storage and distribution of vital energy, the health of muscles, nails, hands and feet, eyes and emotional balance. The kidneys work to flush out the waste in the body so that blood can move purely and effectively to nourish our cells. When these energy lines are clear, we feel more vibrant, confident, and calm. A gentle floor-based class that caters for the young and old, newbies, and is suitable for everyone. Young Living essential oils will be used in this class.
